Donald Trump Wins CPAC 2023 Straw Poll with 40% of the Vote

Donald Trump has won the straw poll for the 2024 Republican Party presidential nominee by a significant margin, according to Breitbart. The poll, conducted at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), showed that Trump received 55% of the votes, while Florida Governor Ron DeSantis received 21%. This marks a 40% lead for Trump over his closest competitor.

The CPAC straw poll has historically been a good predictor of Republican presidential nominees. In 2016, Trump won the straw poll prior to his successful presidential campaign, and in 2020, he won the poll again, but was defeated by Joe Biden in the general election.

Trump delivered the closing keynote address at CPAC on Sunday, where he criticized President Biden’s policies and speculated about his own political future. “With your help, we will take back the House, we will take back the Senate,” he said.

The former president did not officially announce his candidacy for president in 2024, but implied that his decision would be influenced by the outcome of the upcoming midterm elections. “They’re the races that matter most,” Trump said. “I’ll be making an endorsement soon.”

The CPAC straw poll was conducted from February 25-27, and included responses from 1,525 attendees. The margin of error for the poll was 2.5%.
